Episode script :

Hi there, My name is Marguerite and I am a 22 years old french girl !

Hi, I’m Guilhem, also 22 years old and very excited to introduce you to our new project.

We are both students in level 4 at the University of Nantes majoring in Accounting and Auditing practice. In our first semester of this year we had the possibility to study abroad.

Our University in France has a partnership with the Southampton Solent University and we decided to go there. We made that choice for different reasons.

Indeed as a student who would like to work in our interconnected global world, I find essential to study abroad.

With the increase of global competition for jobs, language capabilities and cross-cultural communication skills seem now necessary to succeed in the global economy.

By studying abroad with the Erasmus program which removes the barriers posed by financial need, I want to be pushed out of my comfort zone, to experience another culture, language, environment and education system. I want to appreciate difference and diversity while learning how to interact with people from other country.

For me, I already have done a three year degree abroad in London and I liked the english way to teach things. Moreover, one of my aspirations for the future is to work at an international level and that is what we are going to learn in Southampton: the international rules of accounting and auditing.

As England has established itself as one of the leading country in Finance, I naturally oriented my choice towards Southampton. Indeed, Marguerite and I, as she previously said, are both looking forward to working in an international audit group.

Our experience abroad is, in this way, an integrated part of our curriculum.

Our internships, found thanks to the IAE of Nantes, will surely help us internalize what we will learn abroad as soon as we while come back in France at the end of our semester, in January.

During this semester in UK we also had to do a project for our french uni. This project consisted in writing some articles about the country we will meet following different topics.

As a matter of fact we realise with Marguerite that it would have been difficult for us to write apart different things about Southampton !

Not that the city is that bad but we already have in mind to visit the same places. That is why we first decided to make this project together.

We are both convinced that working together as a team would help us develop communication skills, while allowing us to explore in more depth several topics.

We also wanted to find a more attractive way to show to people who are interested in our experience what we have done. In the end, Guilhem has highlighted the advantages of making videos which are easier to follow in comparison to articles.

We will therefore try to make it as exciting as possible. We want to have a better and more complete understanding of the local culture, the historical and professional background of your host city, the local labor market and be aware of any the heated debate among Southampton inhabitants.

After all, we know that our targeted population is most likely to be the people who will come to Southampton after us in the following years. Regarding to that fact, our videos will be kind of tutorials which explain the most important things about how to live in Southampton, the english culture, etc…

We also want to be able to captivate a wider audience by highlighting key features about everyday life, business, and striking facts in United Kingdom.

That’s why we will take you from Southampton Solent University, to its harbour, parks and fancy places, to its surroundings, Stonehenge, or Bath.

We will also take you to his stadium, to try to analyze the influence of the Football business throughout the country, or to his Marina to mesure the impact of maritime trade.

So we hope you will find that interesting and will follow us through this wonderful experience of living abroad !

See you next week for our first episode !
