Sport in Keele University

  • This week I will speak to you about « Sports at Keele University ». During the fresher week, there was sport fair with approximately 50 different sports. This was a really important event for students looking to join a sports club. Here, students got to meet members of the team and register. Each sport offered two or three free practices for all students. This gave students the opportunity to see if they liked the sport or not. To enroll for the sport teams, students have to pay around 50£ depending on the sport. You can find all kinds of sports here. It’s a good opportunity to discover and play new sports which are not common in France. These sports include lacrosse, snorkeling, hockey, climbing, and beach-volley. There of course, are the classics sports as well, like football, basketball, rugby, gym, and tennis. There’s a lot of space given for sport teams at Keele. Also, if you aren’t competitive, you can play only for pleasure. There is beautiful gym on campus also if you just want to work out with a trainer. Keele offers a lot of activities like running in group and Friday football, etc. I tried out for tennis, football and rugby.

Finally I chose to play rugby. There are 2 squads who play for the BUCS (the university championship). Here, the rugbymens are very proud to play for Keele University and it is really competitive to be selected for the first team. I have training two times per week and one game on Wednesday. There’s also a social after the match on Wednesday night. The atmosphere with my teammates is really fun, it’s the best way to make friends and share a good time! Sports is really important aspect here on campus. The students are all proud of our teams. Some people come to support around the field and cheer us on.
