  • Hello Marie !
  • Hello Marine !
  • How are you doing ?
  • Fine and what about you ?
  • I am preparing my final exam. I am OK.
  • Oh ok, for me, this is last time to check my final thesis on psychological flexibility
  • Oh, what a topic !
  • Yess !
  • It is good to have some time to discuss together because you are my godmother
  • Yes, I am your godmother !
  • We already had the time to discuss. Maybe, you can introduce yourself quite quickly and I will do it afterwards.
  • Yes, I am Marie, I am 32 years old, I am a student in M2 PCPI at Nantes University. I am really happy that’s almost the end of the studies. Because, these are not my first studies. I am an old student. So finally, only six months left ! I think it’s a good introduction ! What about you ?
  • I am 35 years old and I am also going back to school after previous professional life. I used to work in the field of communication for big corporations like Mars group and Red Cross. It is quite surprising to be again with younger students. You know, I still have a year and a half before going back to professional life. But I am quite enjoying this moment of learning, where you step back from everyday life and it’s good to have another view on psychology and on life. You have the opportunity to think and it’s pretty great. It’s very an opportunity.
  • Yes, it enables us to go deeper in the understanding of ourselves. It’s not only studying, it’s also a bit therapeutic.
  • I completely agree. And, why did you choose to study psychology ?
  • Oh, for me, I already wanted to do psychology studies after my “french baccalaureat”. But I didn’t have the maturity and maybe the independence from my parents and from school to choose what I wanted to do. They said : “No you won’t find a job…”. So I chose to go to law and business school, specializing in health sector.  Afterwards, I began to work and from the beginning I said to myself “Ok, I need to do something else. This is not where I want to be and this is not where I want to grow. So I decided to think about it, it’s a big project, having money aside to have the possibility to do that. So It took 3 or 4 years before beginning anew these studies. And what about you ?
  • I think it’s pretty the same you know. You start to go in studies, you don’t know precisely what to do with your life. As I am concerned, I didn’t know  about psychology. But you know, this kind of career path, you go in studies, you need to make some money, you go to big firms and I didn’t recognize myself and I was in kind of cognitive dissonance. I never felt comfortable in what I was doing, I was managing communication projects, I had “PSE” (plan social), on the way to communicate when you fired people. I t was pretty terrible for me because it was totally at the opposite with my values. I suffered quite a lot for that. And I realized that I was in a kind of bullshit job. And that’a a thing that doesn’t matter at all. I took the time to find what I wanted to do, where I wanted to grow, what I wanted to bring to society and to people. And to give more meaning into doing. It took time. I studied at home some psychology and was reading a lot and had the opportunity to join in licence 3 the University of Nantes in psychology. And that was what I want, I did my first year and I was “OK, I think it’s where I belong”. You know, the same approach as you, maybe more time for me because I am a little bit older than you but the same…
  • The psychic process, the same maturity. This how you want to evolve and that’s nice to step into that because sometimes you can be there for a long time and it’s good to say “Yess I can do something else that what was promised to me”. And what are your projects after the studies ?
  • In fact, when I started, I had kind of rigid plan. I had my idea, I wanted to work in clinical work psychology to help to prevent from psychosocial risks and to help people suffering from difficulties at work. But finally I realized that I was kind of influenced by my backgrounds and experiences. And the more I am learning and the more I am saying “Don’t limit yourself and take the time to discover many things, and you will see”. So it’s pretty the opposite to my dispositional functioning that is having plan…
  • Controlling !
  • I have a strong incertainty intolerance but I take the time. I accept to say “Sit your bottom and you will see”. Finally, it’s something I pretty appreciate not to have fixed and defined plans. Because, also, when you are looking for an internship, you realized  that you can’t have exactly what you want. And you say “OK, so maybe, let it cool”.
  • Yes, things are going to happen. You don’t know when, where, what but it is going to happen in a way. It’s so soothing to let it go, to accept, to not control everything and just to flow on the wave. And you are in master 1 and you know now that you are going to pass you final exam. Yes, there are exceptions, but “I touch wood”.  Ok, it’s really nice.
  • And for you, what is your plan after these 6 months ?
  • It’s really…impermanent. I wanted to do something, now I think I want to do something else. I think I will link…because I am teaching yoga and meditation…and this is really something also on my path that really enables me to grow and to go where I want to go. And I like also to teach and have individual therapeutic appointments. So I think I want to link yoga and psychotherapy. And maybe in a liberal independent activity, but in partnership with other people…and maybe also in institution. I don’t know yet, I will see also what’s going to happen…
  • No control !
  • We try !
  • Not easy for us, but we try.
  • Ok, so thank you. I don’t know, do you have anything else you’d like to cover ? Or maybe we can do it another time in french with a cup of tea ?
  • Yess, with a cup of tea and a big chocolate cookie. It would be a pleasure.
  • Yeah, I would be very happy. So, thank you.
  • Thank you Marine
  • I wish you a nice day
  • You too, have a nice day !
  • Bye bye
  • Bye !
