It is not really easy to understand the mission that a social psychologist can practice. In first years of the master, we had to do an internship in which we are followed by a professional. My internship took place in University of Nantes, I was followed by one of my teachers, who will be my evaluator. Thus, by Nicolas Dupuis, social psychologist who was my professional referent. Being accompanied by a professional advisor allowed me to take stock of what I live in my internship and to be able to take a step back. Furthermore to discuss about our visions of social psychology, the profession of psychologist in professional application and in research. It brought me a lot and helped to position myself. So, I will introduce you to Nicolas Dupuis’ activities, social psychologist and doctor of human science.
He works as a liberal and practice several activities. First, he carried out psychosocial study and survey with local authorities or companies. These studies are carried out with the aim of supporting projects in their implementation and their achievement over different durations, ranging from one month to one year. During these studies, he mainly realizes survey in the form of questionnaires and interviews. He essentially treats the use of public transport or the social acceptability of projects. He issues a report at the end of the monitoring period, where survey results are displayed. This outcome leads to recommendation from him, in order to promote the smooth running of the project. Thus, he worked with organizations such as ADEME, a government agency for ecological transition or SEMITAN, a public transport agency in Nantes.
Nicolas Dupuis also receives in consultation professionals, in particular in health field, in order to follow them in their work. These consultations aim to listen to and identify any psychosocial risks with which these patients are or may be exposed. He can provide advices and proposes tools to face different problems like harassment at work, group conflict, etc or simply to help them to set up a collective life within a unit having to work together. Furthermore, another of his activities is to carried out psychosocial interventions on the work site, when the situation and the company ask it. These interventions may follow a need for mediation between employees, a suicide in work unit or an accident. His main role in these interventions, is to accompany individuals to promote well-being, both professionally and personally. His last activity is training and training support. He may be required to carry out interventions in universities, companies or communities. He is contributor in the engineering school Art et Métier in Paris in the notion of social acceptability of project. Thus, he is sessional instructor at road traffic and public politics in the master 1 and 2 of social, work and organizational psychology at the university of Angers, path of social psychology of risk and safety: mobility and transport. In the university context, he accompanies the students in their career, advises them and provides them with support. His follow allows the student to have a professional’s point of view on his practice, as well as help in building his professional project.
