Hello everyone, we meet like every week to discuss a new theme in “let’s talk psycho” your favorite podcast

Today we gonna talk about social media and their impact on self-esteem

Social media allows you to expose all kinds of content, especially about yourself.Today, we are constantly sharing moments of our lives on the Internet. We expose our photos, videos and thoughts in the hope of receiving a “Like” in return. Why? Do we need the approval of people we don’t see often to feel that our life is exciting? Maybe social networks have an impact on self-esteem.

What is self-esteem about? The way we look at ourselves is never neutral (André,2006).”Self-esteem is a psychological concept that refers to the overall positive or negative judgment a person has of him or herself. ” (Brodar,2012). Social media seems to influence self-esteem because it encourages comparison to others. This comparison to an unattainable ideal seems very risky. Studies show that this can cause a decrease in self-esteem, in addition to contributing to depression and an overall decrease in well-being.However, in some cases, social media would promote an idealized version of oneself (enhanced and retouched photos). Therefore, for some people, posting self-portraits would be an attempt to boost a negative self-esteem.

Mirror, mirror, tell me who is the most beautiful ? Today we hear a lot of things like: I’m too fat, I have a crooked nose, my lips are not plump enough, I have no shape, I want to look like this star … all these complexes due to a search for ideal beauty are accentuated in part by social media which leads people to do more and more surgery that is why it is important to be careful and to make prevention especially among young people who are those who are most influenced by social media.

To conclude, remember that social networks are a distorted mirror of reality. If they allow us to entertain ourselves during the day, it is important to remember that the people who appear on them often display a fantasised daily life. So love yourself as you are!

This was sabrina , it’s was a pleasure as always ,see you next week for another theme on “Let’s talk psycho”.
