A. Hello, I’m Arnaud Sapin and I’m a fourth year student.
H. Hello, I’m Helena Luparello and I’m the fifth year student.
A. And we are going to do a little interview so let’s get started. My first question is why did you choose to become an IO psychologist ?
H. I have always been interested like to understand society and people who live and understand the interactions between them, and that kind of stuff. And when I have to choose which master degree I want to go in, I was like so social psychology seems the more logical choice ok let’s do it.
A. It was your first choice?
H. Yes it was my first and only choice. I only apply in social psychology in Nantes. I don’t know because I like it and I didn’t really know what I wanted to do at this time. I just choose because I like the subject.
A. And so is it more clear now? Do you know what psychologist would you want to become ?
H. I’m still not really sure. But I know I prefer to work in the field of quality life at work, stuff like that. If I can choose, I would preferred preferred to work in the public service rather than in the private sector.
A. And so do you want to work on your own corporation and proposing your services to some
H. Maybe, I don’t know if I want to be an employe or if I want to have like a
A. Your own thing
H. Yeah, I don’t know. I going to see with my internship what I wanna do.
A. So about your internship, what did you do during your first master year internship ? What did you learn ?
H. So I did a research internship in the university with Mister Navarro. I did it because at first I wanted to do research and a thesis and now I learn that I don’t want to.
A. That’s good!
H. Yeah, that’s good. And it was a research on how people apprehend coastal risk in like the atlantic ocean. And we worked with geographers, it was kind of difficult to work with them so I have learn a lot on who to manage to work
A. Communicate
H. Yeah communicate, how to make it go smoothly. It was very interesting to see how do you do it in work, and I like it.
A. And do you know where you will do your last internship ?
H. No, no not yet. No I don’t know, I didn’t really look and do research on it, so no, not now.
A. I have another question, what is your master’s thesis about ?
H. My master thesis is about the social representation of euthanasia regarding your spirituality. I did like, I don’t really know the word in english but like an association word and I crossed it with your level of spirituality to see if they were something there. But I don’t have the result yet so I don’t know. Hopefully soon I will have them.
A. Which concept of social or IO psychology do you think that everyone should know and not just us social psychologist ?
H. I think, it was hard to answer this question but I think everything we know about discrimination could be a really nice thing to to, I lost my word but how decrease them and everything would be a really good thing to learn to a lot of people. Because it’s really an issue in our society, and we can do something about it with what we know as social psychologist. So, I think I would choose that.
A. I totally agree with you. And were come my last question, are you afraid of what is next ? When you will be a psychologist ?
H. Yes, quiet scared actually yes. Because it’s like, oh with have to go to the active life right now and with have so many choices. And i’m like oh what i’m going to chose, what i’m going to do with my life and did I do the right choice. And yes but I’m also excited to have my diploma soon.
A. Good, so let’s switch.
H. Yeah ok. Let’s do this! So why did you chose to do psychology study ?
A . I think I choose to study psychology because I knew someone who had depression and I wanted to better understand who to treat this illness, and I think that more generally I wanted to understand who people are interacting between each other, how they communicating. And it was my first choice actually but I was also very interested in sociology and that’s a bit why I doing social psychology.
H. So you are getting ahead of my second question but what were your motivations to select I/O psychology ?
A. So that a bit for it because I was very interested in both psychology and sociology and so it was pretty obvious tod do social psychology which is between psychology and sociology and also I discovered the environnemental psychology which is my really prime interest now.
H. Ok, good good choice and where do you come from ? What is your background ?
A. I don’t have much to say about this because I form here actually form Nantes. I was born in Nantes and I didn’t really moved, but I love living in this city, it’s quiet good so I don’t have much to say.
H. Ok that’s ok. What is your experiences in psychology or other kind like humanitary ?
A. We were talking about environmental psychology earlier and actually I did during my third year an internship with Mister Navarro, in the LPPL and that was really interesting and I’m started another internship on the COM2SICA project with Mister Navarro next week. So i’m really interested about research and doing a thesis on environmental psychology so that’s quite my experience with psychology.
H. Ok good. And how do see yourself like 10-20 years ?
A. Firstly, I don’t know if I will be still alive because with all this climate change stories the future is quite unpredictable but I my best future I would like to be to work at college, I would like to be a professor and teach and do some research about environmental psychology. And that would be a good future I think, so that’s my answer.
H. If I was a wishmaker, what would be your first wish ?
A. I think I would like to have a research award, to have enough money to do a Phd thesis because it can be hard to have to have access to money giving by the state to do a Phd even particularly in social science so it would be very good for me to have a research grant to do to do a Phd. I think that would be my wish because there is other thing but I think I can handle it without magic but if I had magic I would have the money to do a Phd thesis.
